Antal Máriás Memorial Medal

In the Council meeting of June 2001, the seat of Professor Antal Máriás was left empty after his sudden, tragic death.

Dr. Antal Máriás, Professor Emeritus (1925-2001), devoted his life to TDK and was a prominent figure in the history of the movement practically up until his dying day. Among his other functions, he was a distinguished member of the National Council of Student Research Societies, of its Executive Board and also of the Advisory Board awarding the Pro Scientia Gold Medal. He was the President of the Board of Trustees of the Pro Scientia Foundation.

In the meeting of 24 September 2001, the Antal Máriás Memorial Medal was established by the Council in honour of the excellent and indefatigable professor. The Memorial Medal is bestowed biennially on a senior school founder who is an economist.

The silver medal, which portrays Antal Máriás, was created by medallist György Bognár. The portrait is accompanied by the inscription “I live in young hearts.” The name of the recipient is also engraved on the personalised medal, which is presented together with a certificate at the closing ceremony of the National Conference by the President of the Council. The venue of the event is the ceremonial hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
