Honoris Causa Pro Scientia Gold Medal

“This is the highest order of merit granted by the Council to those invaluable individuals whose oeuvre is exemplary for young students and researchers. These experts are our models in encouraging and supporting the coming generations of young talents and researchers and in gaining recognition for the efforts of both students and supervisors.” (Prof. Dr. Péter Szendrő, President of OTDT – National Council of Student Research Societies, 6 November 2001, Hungarian Academy of Sciences)

After each National Conference, a maximum of three Honoris Causa Pro Scientia Gold Medals are presented to pioneering professors, researchers and public figures who have been eminent supporters of TDK and whose innovative scholarly work has established a new school of thought in their discipline. Awardees characteristically also include public figures who have helped student researchers and their supervisors in TDK to gain social and professional recognition. After each Conference, it is the task of the Executive Board of the Council to propose nominees for this award to the Council itself, which votes by secret ballot. On each occasion, the three awards are distributed among two eminent scholars (in the fields of natural and social sciences, respectively) and a prominent public figure.

The award ceremony takes place in the ceremonial hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The Medal comes with a small gilded and enamelled badge, which repeats the main motif of the Medal and an official certificate.
